Counselling and Psychotherapy

What Are Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are a means by which mental health and well-being can be significantly improved.

The process involves an ongoing and regular meeting where you can bring whatever is of concern and talk about it with another person who is trained in listening skills. This can help you to come to a deeper understanding of yourself and your situation. This in turn allows you to get a better sense of yourself as a person and make choices that are right for you.

Counselling is sometimes seen as more short term and focussing on the day-to-day, whereas psychotherapy is sometimes seen as longer term and enquiring more deeply into unconscious patterns and their origins in the past. However, there can be considerable overlap between the two.
